Stunt at the top of the Empire State Building turns out to be a marriage proposal
The incident, which was followed second-by-second by US media helicopters, was initially thought to be a protest. However, it was soon understood that the man, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was proposing to his girlfriend hundreds of meters in the air.
A couple who climbed the antenna mast of the 445-meter-high Empire State Building, one of the iconic structures in New York City, without authorization, carried out a breathtaking marriage proposal.
After the proposal, the pair, who hung a banner containing a message of peace from the top of the building, were taken into custody by the police.
"When the power of love overcomes the desire for power..."
During the incident, which was also closely monitored from the air by a New York Police Department (NYPD) helicopter, the pair hung a banner on the antenna mast with white letters on a black background.
The banner, which spread rapidly on social media and became a trending topic, read, "When the power of love overcomes the desire for power, the world will know peace."
Caught the moment they descended to the balcony
Having completed their dangerous stunt at the summit, the couple then managed to descend to the lower balcony by holding onto the iron railings.
It was reported that the couple was taken into custody by security forces as soon as they reached the balcony on the grounds that they had climbed to the tower section of the building without authorization and endangered both their own lives and public safety.
