Successfully completed: Turkey's second space mission lasted 1 hour and 10 minutes
Turkey's second astronaut, Tuva Cihangir Atasever, conducted 7 experiments in suborbital space aboard the "VSS Unity" suborbital vehicle as part of Turkey's second space mission.
Turkey's second space mission has been successfully completed.
The aircraft carrying the "VSS Unity" suborbital vehicle, owned by Virgin Galactic and carrying Turkey's second astronaut Tuva Cihangir Atasever, took off from the Spaceport facility in New Mexico at 08:30 local time (17:31 Turkish time) to begin its space journey. The spacecraft, carrying the 6-person "Galactic 07" crew consisting of 4 astronauts, including Atasever as a research astronaut, and 2 pilots, landed at 18:41 Turkish time. During the flight, which lasted approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes, the "VSS Unity" suborbital vehicle reached an altitude of approximately 45,000 feet via a carrier aircraft, then ignited its hybrid rocket motor to reach an altitude of approximately 90 kilometers. Atasever, who conducted 7 experiments during the 3-minute free-fall phase of the suborbital flight aimed at examining physiological changes in the human body in a space environment, said in the press conference held after the flight, "The experimental side of the flight was a great success."
COMPLETED ITS FINAL FLIGHT
The VSS Unity, which Atasever was aboard, completed its seventh flight this year and its 12th and final flight overall with this historic journey.
VSS Unity performed its first space flight on December 13, 2018.
