Sudan's capital under siege: Civil war has been ongoing for 17 months

It has been reported that the Sudanese army has launched a major operation against the capital, Khartoum, which has been under the control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for the 17 months they have been in conflict.

According to eyewitnesses, the army is conducting a major land and air operation in the center of the capital, Khartoum, and in the northern Bahri region.

Army forces, utilizing warplanes and artillery, have been deployed in the Kadaru and Halfaya neighborhoods of Bahri.

Footage shared on social media shows army soldiers crossing the White Nile Bridge, which connects Omdurman to the center of Khartoum.

The records indicate that the army has deployed to the center of Khartoum, which has been under RSF control since the war began in April 2023.

According to reports in the local press, the army has launched a major land and air operation against the RSF in central Khartoum and Bahri.

It was claimed that the army has 'inflicted heavy losses on the militias (RSF) in terms of lives and equipment.'

The power struggle between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF)—who jointly staged a coup against the government formed with civilian participation following the overthrow of Omar al-Bashir's 30-year rule in a popular uprising—has been ongoing for more than 17 months.

All initiatives launched to end the war have remained inconclusive.

According to the United Nations, more than 20,000 people have lost their lives, over 10 million people have been displaced, and more than 25 million people are in need of humanitarian aid as a result of the conflicts in Sudan, which is experiencing one of the world's largest displacement and hunger crises.
