Surprise support from Germany for Israel, despite US warnings

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that he does not find the demands from the Arab and Islamic world for a ceasefire or a long pause in Gaza to be correct.

Scholz made statements regarding the current situation in Gaza at an event organized by the Heilbronner Stimme newspaper.

Addressing the ceasefire calls from the Arab and Islamic world, Chancellor Scholz remarked, "I do not think that the demand for an immediate ceasefire or a long pause (in Gaza) is right. Because this would mean that Israel must allow Hamas to recover. Hamas should not be allowed to manufacture missiles again and attack."

Stating that he still believes a two-state solution is possible, the German Chancellor emphasized that there must be a perspective that makes this feasible.

"If you want a lasting peace, you must want the possibility of a Palestinian state that does not pose a threat to Israel," Scholz said.

"I HAVE SPOKEN WITH PUTIN IN THE PAST AND WILL DO SO IN THE FUTURE"

The Social Democratic Party (SPD) politician Scholz stated that he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin will not be successful if things go well in Ukraine, and noted the following:

"If Ukraine cannot be annexed, (Putin) will have to sign an agreement that he will respect the sovereignty of Ukraine, and he will have to say that he accepts this for the future. However, in this case, you have to talk to him (Putin) from time to time, which I have done in the past and will do in the future. For negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, Russia needs to take a decisive step, and that means withdrawing its troops, and so far, it is not ready to do that."

Olaf Scholz visited Tel Aviv on October 17 to show support for Israel and demonstrate Germany's solidarity with the country.

Scholz has repeatedly emphasized that Israel's security is a matter of state for Germany.
