Suspect who killed United Healthcare CEO captured

The suspect who killed Brian Thompson, CEO of United Healthcare, the largest private health insurance company in the US, was captured by police yesterday after being identified by an employee and a customer while eating at a fast-food restaurant in the city of Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Police announced that 26-year-old Luigi Mangione, who was sitting alone in the restaurant, was found with a “ghost gun” assembled from various parts to avoid detection in his backpack, as well as clothing and a mask similar to those used in the murder. It was also reported that Mangione was carrying fake IDs and a large amount of cash.

3-PAGE HANDWRITTEN MANIFESTO FOUND

Police also announced that they found handwritten documents on Mangione that reveal the motive for the murder and the suspect's mindset. Emphasizing that the documents did not mention a specific target, New York Police Department Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said, “On the other hand, there is ill intent toward large corporations in America.”

It was noted that the three-page handwritten manifesto carried by Mangione contained criticisms of the US healthcare system and specifically mentioned United Healthcare by name. Police stated that in this document, US insurance companies were accused of putting financial gain ahead of patient care.

WILL BE TRIED FOR MURDER

According to court records, New York prosecutors have charged Mangione with murder in connection with the killing of Thompson. In addition to murder, Mangione will also face charges such as criminal possession of a weapon and possession of forged documents.

SUSPECT IS FROM A WELL-KNOWN FAMILY

It has emerged that Luigi Mangione, who is accused of killing United Healthcare CEO Thompson, is also from a wealthy family and a graduate of a prestigious university.

The suspect's relatives, including his grandfather Nicholas Mangione, a real estate investor and founder of Lorien Health Services, and his cousin Nino Mangione, a politician and member of the Maryland House of Delegates, stated that they were shocked by the news.

It was also revealed that the suspect, who has a brilliant academic background, holds both a bachelor's and a master's degree in computer science from the University of Pennsylvania and had founded a game development club at the university.

United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson was killed in an armed attack on the street in New York on December 4, shortly before an investor conference where he was scheduled to speak.
