'Suspicious' packages sent to election officials in the US: FBI launches investigation

According to a report by the Associated Press news agency, it has been determined that the packages were sent to officials living in the states of Alaska, Georgia, Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Missouri, New York, Rhode Island, Iowa, Mississippi, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Wyoming.

'US TRAITOR ELIMINATION ARMY' CLAIMS RESPONSIBILITY

Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold wrote in a post on her X account that those who sent the packages identified themselves as the 'US Traitor Elimination Army.'

In the FBI's press release, it was stated, 'Some of the letters contained an unknown substance. We are working closely with law enforcement to respond to each incident and safely collect the packages.'

'UNKNOWN SUBSTANCE' MAY BE FLOUR

The Oklahoma State Election Board claimed that the substance in the letters was flour. However, the Election Board's statement has not been confirmed by the FBI.

Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, a Democrat, spoke to CBS and said that the number of threatening messages she has received has increased recently. Benson pointed out that tensions are escalating as the elections approach in the US.

MAILINGS CONTAINING 'FENTANYL' HAD BEEN SENT PREVIOUSLY

It was also announced in November of last year that suspicious mailings had been sent to US election offices.

Envelopes containing fentanyl were sent in Georgia, Nevada, California, Oregon, and Washington, and authorities had launched an investigation into the incidents.

The perpetrators were not caught as a result of the investigation.
