Syria decides to recognize Kosovo

Delegations from Syria and Kosovo met in a trilateral meeting in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, with the participation of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The meeting addressed topics related to mutual official recognition, cooperation, and the development of a common understanding. In a written statement issued by the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs following the meeting, it was stated, "Based on its belief in the right of peoples to self-determination and its commitment to strengthening peace and stability in the Balkans, Syria recognizes Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state."

The statement emphasized that the decision was taken within the framework of Syria's policy of expanding bridges of cooperation and developing friendly relations with various countries around the world. Furthermore, drawing attention to the constructive role of Saudi Arabia, it was noted, "The efforts of the Riyadh administration to bridge differences and support dialogue have created the appropriate conditions for this decision to be taken."

"KOSOVO IS NOW RECOGNIZED BY 120 COUNTRIES"

The Damascus administration announced that it aims to establish diplomatic relations with Kosovo as soon as possible and to develop cooperation in political, economic, and cultural fields.

Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani also stated on social media that she thanked Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara for the decision to recognize Kosovo and for his support for the people of Kosovo. Osmani said, "Both the people of Kosovo and Syria have suffered greatly and made great sacrifices to achieve freedom. Therefore, the mutual recognition that took place today is not only a confirmation of state sovereignty but also an appreciation of the sacrifices of many generations who fought to live freely."

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said, "We received great news today. With Syria joining the countries that recognize Kosovo, Kosovo is now recognized by 120 countries. We extend our thanks to President Osmani for her successful efforts and to everyone who contributed. As our country enters a new and critical turning point in its history, we look forward to strengthening our relations."
