Syrian Foreign Ministry: We condemn Iran's attempted attacks on Turkey and Azerbaijan

The Syrian Foreign Ministry has issued a statement condemning the drone (UAV) attack by Iran on the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan.

The statement also addressed the ballistic missile launched from Iran yesterday that headed toward Turkish airspace, stating, "Syria condemns in the strongest terms Iran's attempt to target Turkey and Azerbaijan with ballistic missiles and UAVs. These actions are a clear violation of the sovereignty of these countries and pose a serious threat to regional and international security and stability. We completely condemn all forms of violence and escalation that target civilians and infrastructure, and we call for adherence to international law and the principles of good neighborliness."

Emphasizing that they stand in full solidarity with Turkey and Azerbaijan, the Syrian Foreign Ministry called on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities and protect regional peace.

A statement from the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry had reported that drone attacks were carried out from Iranian territory against the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan.

The statement noted, "While one UAV struck the terminal building of the airport in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, the other fell near a school in the village of Shakarabad. The Azerbaijani side reserves the right to respond. Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mojtaba Demirchilou was summoned to the Foreign Ministry." It was reported that 2 civilians were injured at Nakhchivan Airport.

Furthermore, a ballistic munition launched from Iran that traveled over Iraq and Syria toward Turkish airspace was intercepted by NATO air defense systems deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean. As a result of the intervention, missile debris fell near the Dörtyol district of Hatay, the Atatürk Dam Lake in Adıyaman, and the Nusaybin district of Mardin.
