Syrians in that country are returning

During a meeting with Syrian President Ahmed Shara, who is visiting Germany, Chancellor Merz stated that approximately 80 percent of the more than 900 thousand Syrians living in Germany could return to their country within the next three years. In his statement, Merz noted that only those Syrians who have successfully integrated into society would be able to continue living in Germany, and emphasized that Syria needs its own citizens during the reconstruction process.

DIFFERENT REACTIONS FROM POLITICIANS AND THE PARTY

This proposal by the Chancellor has become a subject of debate even within his own party, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). Roderich Kiesewetter, the CDU's foreign policy spokesperson, described the remarks as "politically risky," expressing concern that Merz's words could be exploited by far-right and populist circles and create unrealistic expectations among the public.

Politicians from other parties highlighted the contributions of Syrians to the German economy and argued that unrealistic promises would harm society.

SHARE OF SYRIANS IN THE HEALTH SECTOR COMES TO THE FORE

The German Hospital Federation, which joined the discussions, announced the current number of Syrian doctors and healthcare workers. In the statement made by the federation, it was stated that Syrians constitute the largest group of foreign doctors in the country; currently, in addition to 5 thousand 745 Syrian doctors, more than 2 thousand Syrian nurses are employed in the healthcare system.
