Taylor Swift announced her support for Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris following the debate that brought Republican candidate Donald Trump and Kamala Harris face-to-face last Tuesday (September 10). Swift described Harris as a 'steady, gifted leader' who can lead the country with calm rather than chaos.

In an Instagram post, Swift told her more than 280 million followers that she would be casting her vote for current US Vice President Kamala Harris, who is running in the November 5 election.

Polls show the two candidates are nearly tied. According to a joint poll by The New York Times and Siena College released earlier this week, Harris is just 1 point behind Trump, with 47 percent to his 48 percent.

PRAISE FOR HARRIS AND WALZ

In her Instagram post, Swift said, 'I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for (Kamala Harris) because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.'

Swift also posted a photo of herself with a cat on her Instagram account, captioned 'childless cat lady,' in a nod to JD Vance, whom Trump selected as his running mate. In a 2021 interview, Vance had referred to some Democrats as 'a bunch of childless cat ladies.' Vance later stated that this was merely a 'sarcastic comment.'

Swift also said she was impressed by Harris's running mate, Tim Walz. The famous star described Walz as someone who has 'been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.'

Walz, who was on air on MSNBC when Swift announced her support, stated that he was 'incredibly grateful' and called on the singer's fan base, known as 'Swifties,' to 'get things moving.'
