Taylor Swift breaks record at MTV Awards: How many awards did the pop star win?

The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), where the best in video and music are chosen in the US, were presented in New York City. Famous pop star Taylor Swift, who won awards in 7 categories, left her mark on the night.

According to MTV's website, many artists such as Eminem, Sabrina Carpenter, and Katy Perry performed at the awards ceremony.

Eminem, who gave the opening performance at the awards ceremony hosted by Megan Thee Stallion, received the 'Best Hip-hop' and 'Best Visual Effects' awards for his song 'Houdini'.

Swift, who was nominated in 12 categories, returned home with 7 awards, including the 'Video of the Year' category, which she won for the fifth time. By winning a total of 30 VMA awards so far, Swift took over the title of 'Most VMA-Awarded Solo Artist' from Beyonce, who has 26 awards.

While the song 'Fortnight', in which singer Post Malone duets with Swift, received the 'Song of the Summer' award, the song's music video was deemed worthy of the 'Video of the Year' award.

American artist Katy Perry also won the 'VMA Most Iconic Performance' award with her performance of her song 'Roar'.

In the awards ceremony where South Korean music groups stood out, the 'Best K-Pop' award was given to solo singer Lisa, while Seventeen was chosen as 'Group of the Year'.

The 'Best Afrobeats' award, which is a combination of several genres and means 'containing African melodies', was given to Tyla for her song 'Water'.
