Tension in Taiwan's parliament: It turned into a battlefield!
A brawl broke out between ruling and opposition party lawmakers in Taiwan's parliament over a legislative proposal. One lawmaker grabbed the papers containing the proposal and ran away. 5 lawmakers were hospitalized.
Taiwan’s parliament saw a heated debate over proposed reforms.
The main opposition Kuomintang (KMT) and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) presented a legislative proposal to lawmakers that would pave the way for parliament to exercise greater control over the government.
The bill also included a controversial proposal regarding the criminalization of lawmakers deemed to have made false statements in parliament.
The parliament descended into chaos as lawmakers from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) opposed the bill. The scene turned into a battlefield as lawmakers attacked one another.
While some lawmakers jumped onto tables and shoved each other, others threw punches.
During the brawl, DPP lawmaker Guo Guowen climbed onto a table, grabbed the papers containing the legislative proposal, and ran away. The dispute continued for some time outside the parliament as well.
Following the fight, 5 lawmakers were hospitalized, and the session was suspended.
It was reported that the discussion regarding the bill would continue until late at night.
