Terror attack in Munich... Many injured: They targeted the crowd

An unidentified individual attacked people in Munich while a trade union was holding a march. The attacker, who drove his minibus into the crowd, injured at least 28 people according to initial reports. While the attacker was apprehended alive, the police did not share an update regarding the number of injured. Munich police did not provide information regarding potential fatalities in the attack.

Numerous ambulances and police teams were dispatched to the scene. Police announced that the individual who attacked the crowd has been arrested. Footage from the area where the attack occurred shows rescue teams near a vehicle that sustained heavy damage.

Bild newspaper noted that the incident occurred during a trade union demonstration march. Police stated that there were approximately 2,500 people at the march at the time of the attack. Munich police shared information on their X account that many people were injured. While information provided to Bild indicated 28 injured, the police statement did not specify the exact number of casualties.

The Munich Public Prosecutor's Office, which launched an investigation into the attack, said the attacker had a history that 'appears to be linked to radicalism.' Speaking to the press, Prosecutor's Office officials stated that the Central Office for Terrorism and Extremism within the Public Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation.

ATTACKER'S IDENTITY REVEALED

The Munich Public Prosecutor's Office noted that the attacker is a 24-year-old Afghan named Farhad N. Officials added that there are some indications that the attacker had an interest in radical ideas.

According to Spiegel, Farhad was born in Kabul in 2001. He arrived in Germany at the end of 2016. The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees rejected Farhad's asylum application. The Afghan migrant later received a permit that halted his deportation. Farhad was most recently registered in Munich. It was stated that the attacker had made Islamist-themed posts before targeting people in Munich.

According to Spiegel's report, police stated that the attack took place between Dachauer Strasse and Seidlstrasse streets. It was noted that the attacker was neutralized and taken into custody. A spokesperson for the Munich Fire Department stated in a press release that the incident was an 'attack' that resulted in serious injuries. Neither the police nor other authorities have used the term 'terror' regarding the attack yet.

In the latest police announcement, it was announced that the scene of the incident has been closed to traffic. People were asked to stay away from the area, and it was reported that traffic would be disrupted for an 'indefinite' period.

In the latest statement from the Munich police, it was said that a witness collection point was established at the Löwenbräukeller in Stiglmaierplatz. Police called for people with information about the attack and witnesses to contact them.

The police statement included the following:

'A vehicle drove into a group of people at the scene. Many people were injured. We have numerous personnel on the ground.'
