The 'balloon' crisis between North Korea and South Korea continues

South Korea reported that North Korea has sent approximately 240 balloons containing trash across the border.

According to a report by Yonhap, a statement from the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that North Korea has begun sending trash balloons once again.

The statement noted that approximately 240 balloons containing paper and plastic bottles were sent across the border, and reported that some of them landed in the Gyeonggi region surrounding the capital, Seoul.

It is stated that the North has sent more than 3,600 trash balloons to the South since May 28.

"TRASH BALLOON" TENSION

North Korean defectors and activists in South Korea had previously sent large balloons filled with propaganda leaflets criticizing Pyongyang to the North.

In response, North Korea had sent more than 3,000 trash-carrying balloons to South Korea starting from the end of May.

The sending of the balloons, which has caused tension between the two countries, was described by North Korea as "freedom of expression," and South Korea condemned this statement.
