Founded in 2016 by Russian businessman Igor Ashurbeyli, Asgardia was created to prevent the conflicts of Earth from being carried into space.

Ashurbeyli defines Asgardia as a society where knowledge, intelligence, and science are at the forefront. This space nation was brought to life with the contributions of an international group of scientists, engineers, and legal experts.

Among Asgardia's scientific goals is to facilitate the birth of the first human baby in space. The country's name was inspired by Asgard from Norse mythology. Having launched a satellite in 2017 to provide protection against space debris, Asgardia took a significant step in this field.

Asgardia has its own flag, coat of arms, and anthem. Its flag features a yellow circle representing the Sun on a blue sky background, along with nine yellow orbits. The coat of arms consists of a golden circle and 12 petals.

The country's currency is called the Solar.

With a population of 1,120,346, Asgardia has surpassed the populations of many small countries. Citizenship applications are accepted free of charge, and the country aims to be recognized by the United Nations.
