The unknown facts about the 150 Boeing aircraft Turkey is set to purchase... Used in the massacre in Gaza!
As Turkey's plan to purchase 150 aircraft from Boeing becomes a topic of discussion ahead of President Erdoğan's visit to the US, the company's history, its role in the genocide in Gaza, and its arms shipments to Israel have drawn attention.
Boeing was founded in America in 1916 and merged with McDonnell Douglas in 1997 to overcome a decline in sales following the Cold War. This merger largely shaped the company's future. In 2018 and 2019, Boeing's 737 Max aircraft crashed. 346 people lost their lives in the accidents, and airlines canceled 387 orders for the 737 Max. The company laid off 30,000 employees and reported a loss of 2.4 billion dollars.
Boeing's responsibility in the 737 Max crashes was examined in the 2022 Netflix documentary Downfall: The Case Against Boeing. According to the documentary, after its merger with McDonnell Douglas, Boeing compromised its corporate culture by prioritizing safety second. Warnings issued before the accidents were ignored. During this process, the US House of Representatives also launched an investigation into Boeing.
TURKEY-BOEING RELATIONS
Boeing has maintained close relations with Turkey through aircraft purchases since the 1960s. However, the real closeness began with the AKP coming to power in 2003. Purchases were made for 15 aircraft in 2012, 70 in 2013, 15 in 2014, and 30 in 2018. Turkey's relationship with Boeing was not limited to civil aircraft purchases; military munitions such as JDAM guidance kits were also sold. These relations between Boeing and Turkey were strengthened using methods similar to those used with countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
Boeing not only sold aircraft but also invested in massive lobbying activities to influence US politics. Between 2008 and 2010, it spent 52.29 million dollars on lobbying activities alone. Furthermore, in 2021, it was accused of bribery in military tenders along with the Washington-based firm JL Manufacturing and several other contractors.
BOEING'S ARMS SALES TO ISRAEL
As the massacre in Gaza continues, Boeing's arms shipments to Israel have sparked major backlash. In 2025, it was reported that the KC-46A tanker aircraft delivered by Boeing to Israel provided mid-air refueling for fighter jets. In 2024, Boeing sold 25 F-15IA fighter jets to Israel under a new 5.2 billion dollar deal. It was learned that precision bombs such as the JDAM and GBU-39 produced by Boeing were delivered to Israel in 2023 and that these munitions were used in the attacks in Gaza.
