The Taiwan Armed Forces noted that 5 warships and 21 fighter jets belonging to China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) are approaching Taiwan. As the PLA forces advanced toward the Taiwan Strait, it was stated that 7 of the aircraft entered the side of the maritime zone between Taiwan and China that belongs to the island nation.
The US removed the phrase stating that Taiwan is an independent state from its official websites last Sunday (January 2). On US websites, it was stated that China's 'one China' policy is 'respected'.
According to the report by the official Russian state news agency TASS, the Taiwan Ministry of National Defense reported that in addition to the aircraft and ships, a Chinese weather balloon was also detected.
Taiwan declared its independence after the Maoist People's Liberation Army took control of China in 1949. China does not recognize the island's independence as part of its 'one China' policy.
HAS THE US STOPPED RECOGNIZING TAIWAN'S INDEPENDENCE?
The changes made by the US on the websites of official state institutions last Sunday led some users on social media to ask the question, 'Did China and the US reach an agreement?' On the US Department of State's website, information regarding Taiwan was removed from the countries and regions tab.

Furthermore, the Department of State also updated the Taiwan and US relations tab. According to the information provided in the tab, it was stated that the US 'respects' China's 'one China' policy. In the revised text, US-Taiwan relations were described as follows:
''The United States and Taiwan have an unofficial relationship. In the 1979 US-People's Republic of China Joint Communiqué, the diplomatic interlocutor was changed from Taipei (Taiwan's capital) to Beijing. In the communiqué, the US recognized the government of the People's Republic of China as the sole legal government of China. The US acknowledged the Chinese position that there is but one China and Taiwan is part of China.''
