They had reached an agreement in Istanbul! Major prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine completed

US President Donald Trump made a statement regarding the Russia-Ukraine war on his account on the social media site Truth Social.

In his post, Trump stated, "A large prisoner swap between Russia and Ukraine has just been completed. It will go into effect shortly. Congratulations to both sides on the negotiation. Could this lead to something big?" 

Russia and Ukraine had decided to mutually release thousands of prisoners of war during the meetings held in Istanbul. If this step is implemented, it will be the largest prisoner exchange of the war to date.

DECISION FOR PRISONER SWAP WAS MADE IN ISTANBUL

Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov announced on May 16, following the meetings held in Istanbul, that Russia and Ukraine had reached an agreement on a prisoner swap involving the release of one thousand soldiers from each side. The Russian delegation had also confirmed this prisoner exchange.

Making a statement after the peace talks in Istanbul, the head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky, confirmed the Ukrainian delegation's announcement with the words, 'In the coming days, a major prisoner swap of one thousand people for one thousand people will take place.'
