Yanis Yushvaev, described as one of the prominent figures in Israel's organized crime world, lost his life in an armed attack carried out at the exit of a gas station.

In the attack, which was captured on security camera footage, a person wearing a gray hoodie and a hat was seen following Yushvaev and two people with him, then approaching from behind and opening fire at close range. It was reported that the attacker fled the scene.

According to reports by Belaaz News, it is being evaluated that the attacker may have used a silicone mask to hide their face. Medical teams determined that Yushvaev had no pulse or respiration at the scene and had sustained severe wounds, declaring him dead.

It was reported that the Israeli police described Yushvaev as the "head of a crime gang involved in blood feuds." Yushvaev, for his part, had previously claimed that he was merely a restaurant owner and a "well-known" business person.

According to the Times of Israel, Yushvaev had been detained many times in the past due to suspicions linked to armed attacks, hand grenade attacks, and vehicle arson incidents, but was never convicted. It was noted that he survived a similar assassination attempt about 10 years ago.

It was reported that Yushvaev was killed approximately six months after being detained at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv upon his return from Moscow. In 2021, an indictment was prepared against him on allegations that he threatened to kill a business person with a firearm if they did not pay 1.1 million dollars.

In June 2025, Yushvaev was arrested on allegations of opening fire on homes and businesses in Or Akiva, but according to a report by the Jerusalem Post, he was released without charges being filed.

Reports in the Israeli press alleged that Yushvaev expected "total loyalty" from his inner circle and almost never spoke on the phone to avoid wiretaps. A police source who spoke to Channel 12 last October was quoted as saying, "It is difficult to convict him, and it is frustrating."
