Thousands evacuated in Malibu: Homes of Beyonce and Lady Gaga at risk

The fire that began on Monday, December 9, in the city of Malibu in the U.S. state of California continues. In the "Franklin Fire," which is being tackled by approximately 2,000 firefighters, 4,037 acres of land have turned to ash so far, and 9 buildings have been rendered unusable. Due to the flames, 6,300 people have evacuated their homes, and schools and businesses have closed.

Dusty Martin of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) stated that the steep and rugged terrain northwest of Los Angeles has prevented firefighters from accessing much of the fire and that it will take several days to bring the fire under control. Jennifer Seetoo of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department announced that approximately 22,000 people have been affected by the fire.

Located in the hills above the Pacific Ocean, about 50 kilometers northwest of Los Angeles, Malibu is home to many celebrities. Among those evacuated was actor Dick Van Dyke, who will turn 99 tomorrow and announced that he had been safely evacuated. The homes of celebrities such as musician Cher, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, and Jay-Z are also located in the evacuation zone.
