Time magazine names singer Taylor Swift 'Person of the Year'

The magazine's editor-in-chief, Sam Jacobs, described Taylor Swift, who was featured on the magazine's cover as "Person of the Year," as a "rare person who is both the writer and the hero of her own story."

Jacobs stated that Swift "found a way to transcend borders and be a source of light," adding, "No one else on the planet today can move so many people so well."

Swift, who was nominated in 11 categories at the MTV Video Music Awards, where the best in video and music are chosen each year, won 9 awards, including the "Artist of the Year" category, which consisted entirely of female nominees for the first time in MTV history this year.

In 2017, Time magazine chose the people who "broke the silence" regarding sexual harassment scandals that dominated the media agenda by speaking out about the abuse they were subjected to as "Person of the Year," and Taylor Swift was among those named.

The magazine chose Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla, SpaceX, and the social media platform X, as "Person of the Year" in 2021, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in 2022.
