Train crash protests resume in Greece: Demands for 'justice' continue

On February 28, 2023, 57 people died as a result of a train crash in the Tempi region of Greece. Following the legal process, opposition parties and unions, claiming that 'those responsible have not been found and punished,' organized a protest in the capital, Athens, with demands for 'justice.' At the end of the protest, police intervened in the crowd after some demonstrators threw Molotov cocktails at the parliament building.

Four opposition parties in parliament submitted a motion of no confidence against the government on March 5. The opposition's motion was rejected in the vote held in parliament. Following the rejection of the motion, unions and opposition parties decided to organize protests.

'DO NOT SWEEP NEGLIGENCE UNDER THE RUG'

Demonstrators gathered in front of the parliament building in the capital, Athens. Protesters, expressing their reaction to the government, voiced their demands for those responsible for the train crash in the Tempi region near the Greek city of Larissa, which resulted in the deaths of 57 people, to be found and punished, and for 'negligence not to be swept under the rug.'

The protesters also came together in the evening hours at the call of various parties and unions.

Around 22:00 local time, a clash broke out between the police and the protesters. While the protesters threw Molotov cocktails in front of the parliament building, the police intervened against the protesters with tear gas.
