TRNC President Tatar calls on the United Kingdom: 'End the injustice'

President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ersin Tatar reminded the United Kingdom government that, as one of the guarantor countries on the island, it has responsibilities toward both Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots. Tatar requested a review of the unequal treatment directed at the Turkish Cypriot people.

Speaking to the UK's GB News channel, Tatar pointed out that one of the injustices toward the island is the lack of direct flights from the United Kingdom to the TRNC.

Emphasizing that easing the isolations imposed on them would contribute to peace, Tatar noted that the unequal treatment of the Turkish Cypriot people must be reviewed.

Drawing attention to the fact that their vision is a two-state solution in Cyprus, Tatar stated, 'Cooperation in many areas such as energy, water, and natural resources would be beneficial for both Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots.'

'GREEK CYPRIOTS ARE SQUEEZING TURKISH CYPRIOTS BY USING THEIR POSITION IN THE EU'

Calling for justice for his people, Tatar pointed out that Greek Cypriots have a recognized state and were unfairly made members of the European Union (EU) 20 years ago, while the TRNC remained outside the union, and stated that Greek Cypriots are currently using their position in the EU to squeeze Turkish Cypriots with embargoes.

President Tatar stated that there are approximately 20 thousand British citizens living in Northern Cyprus and spoke as follows:

'Over the years, we have established very good connections. Our people here are integrated with the British community. Thousands of our people support Turkish Cypriots, but unfortunately, the inequality toward my people still continues. I remind the United Kingdom government that, as one of the guarantor powers of Cyprus, it has responsibilities and obligations toward Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots. I call for an end to this injustice.'

Tatar added that they would never accept a solution imposed upon them.
