TRNC statement on 'territorial integrity': 'We will not allow violations'

The TRNC Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement regarding the vacant building known as "Neriman's house", located west of the Metehan Land Border Gate in the capital, Nicosia.

Noting that the Greek Cypriot side is attempting to spread "false, incorrect, and baseless news through the press, claiming that the TRNC aims to increase tension on the island," the statement included the following: "While no different attitude is expected from the Greek Cypriot side, in light of such lies and smear campaigns that have the potential to disturb the peace of our people, it has become necessary to make this statement with the understanding of conveying accurate information to our public."

"PROVOCATIVE ACTIVITIES"

The statement emphasized that the building in question is located within TRNC territory and noted that the Greek Cypriot administration is engaging in provocative activities by installing spotlights and cameras at guard posts opposite this vacant building.

Stating that the GCA is "acting under the false misconception that it can disrupt the status of the buffer zone" with these actions, the statement reported that the activities of the Greek Cypriot side are being monitored and that the necessary protests have been lodged by military and civilian authorities with the United Nations Peacekeeping Force (UNFICYP).

STATEMENT ON TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY

Emphasizing that no violation against the territorial integrity of the TRNC will be permitted, the statement noted the following:

"As a result of the Greek Cypriot side continuing these activities despite all warnings, it has become necessary to take the required measures within the territory of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in accordance with the principle of reciprocity. We share with the public that we will not allow any violation or fait accompli against the territorial integrity of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and that we will continue to take all our steps in the region within the framework of reciprocity. We remind them that the continuation of peace and security in the region is only possible if the Greek Cypriot administration ends its provocative actions, and we would like to emphasize that we will continue to do our part for the continuation of peace and security on the island."
