Trump and Netanyahu had supported him... Orban concedes defeat in Hungarian elections

In the Hungarian general elections, according to data from the National Election Office, opposition leader Peter Magyar is leading the race by a wide margin.

In Hungary, a member of the European Union (EU) and NATO, vote counting is underway following the conclusion of voting in the parliamentary elections.

According to results published by the Hungarian National Election Office with approximately 85 percent of the votes counted, the opposition party Tisza, led by Peter Magyar, has emerged as the winner of the election.

Tisza is expected to secure 138 seats in the 199-seat Hungarian National Assembly. Voter turnout reached approximately 78 percent, a level rarely seen in Europe.

ORBAN CONGRATULATED MAGYAR

According to Reuters, Magyar announced on his social media account that the Chairman of the Hungarian Civic Alliance (Fidesz) and incumbent Prime Minister Viktor Orban had congratulated him. 

Magyar wrote, "Prime Minister Viktor Orbán just called me on the phone to congratulate me on our victory."

ORBAN CONCEDED DEFEAT

In a speech to his supporters in Budapest, Orban conceded defeat, saying, "The election results are not yet final, but they are understandable and clear. The election result is painful for us, but it is clear. The responsibility and opportunity to govern have not been given to us. I have congratulated the winner." He added that his party, Fidesz, would serve Hungary from the opposition.

According to the statement regarding the general election, the number of voters who registered to vote at foreign missions this year exceeded 90 thousand, reaching the highest level to date. The number of those who voted remotely reached approximately 224 thousand, breaking a record. Citizens cast their votes at 10 thousand 47 polling centers across the country.

TRUMP AND NETANYAHU HAD DECLARED THEIR SUPPORT

On the other hand, many heads of state had openly shown their support for Orban before the election. 

Among these leaders are US President Donald Trump, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Argentine President Javier Milei, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
