Trump announces 100 percent tariff on foreign films
U.S. President Donald Trump has authorized the Department of Commerce and the Office of the United States Trade Representative to initiate a 100 percent tariff on all films produced in foreign countries and brought into the U.S.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated in a post on his Truth Social account that the American film industry is 'dying' very quickly.
Expressing that other countries are offering all kinds of incentives to lure filmmakers and studios away from the U.S., Trump said, "Hollywood and many regions within the U.S. are being devastated."
Trump pointed out that this is a deliberate effort by other countries and therefore constitutes a national security threat, adding that it also serves as a form of messaging and propaganda.
U.S. President Trump stated, "I am therefore authorizing the Department of Commerce and the Office of the United States Trade Representative to immediately begin the process of applying a 100 percent tariff on all films produced in foreign countries and brought into our country. We want movies to be made in America again."
