Previous reports in the US press had also suggested that a meeting between Washington and Tehran was planned for June 30 in Qatar. According to a report by Axios citing an unnamed senior US official, the parties are in contact to discuss halting mutual attacks and addressing disputes in the Strait of Hormuz.

The report stated that the parties would refrain from attacks “for now” and that the goal is to ensure the free movement of ships. It was noted that technical talks, which previously began in Switzerland, initially focused on Iran’s nuclear program, but the agenda shifted to the situation in the Strait of Hormuz due to rising tensions.
