Trump announces: The US will return to using plastic

US President Donald Trump made a statement regarding paper straws following his withdrawal from the Paris Agreement. Criticizing paper straws and stating that they would return to using plastic straws, Trump noted that he would issue an executive order on the matter.

Trump, who took the presidential seat for his first term on January 20, 2017, had withdrawn the US from the Paris Agreement, which was adopted in 2015. Joe Biden, who took over the presidency from Trump in 2021, made the US a party to the agreement again with an executive order he signed on his first day.

Trump made a statement on his Truth Social social media account, this time targeting paper straws, which are known as environmentally friendly. Trump, who withdrew the US from the Paris Agreement once again on his first day in office, stated the following regarding paper straws:

''Crooked (former President) Joe's 'No plastic straws, only paper!' decision is now dead. You can now enjoy your drink without a paper straw that melts disgustingly in your mouth.''

In a separate post, President Trump emphasized with the phrase 'We are going back to plastic' that he would sign an executive order that would invalidate Biden's decisions regarding the climate crisis.

United Nations (UN) Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated in a statement on January 28 that the US had officially communicated its decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement by sending a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
