Trump noted that the Department of Government Efficiency would provide advice and guidance from outside the government, and would partner with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget to drive large-scale structural reform and create an entrepreneurial approach to government never seen before.

Donald Trump remarked, "I look forward to Elon and Vivek making changes to the federal bureaucracy with an eye on efficiency and, at the same time, making life better for all Americans."

Emphasizing that they would eliminate the massive waste and fraud in the $6.5 trillion annual government spending, Trump stated that Musk and Ramaswamy would work together to liberate the U.S. economy and make the government accountable to the people.

Noting that their work would be completed no later than July 4, 2026, Trump expressed that a smaller government with more efficiency and less bureaucracy would be a "gift" to the country on the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

In the statement, Musk was also quoted as saying, "This will send shockwaves through the system, and anyone involved in government waste!"
