Trump at the White House after 4 years

In a meeting between US President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump, both figures delivered a joint message that the presidential power would be transferred peacefully.

US President-elect Trump arrived in Washington for the first time since his election victory and met with President Biden at the White House.

At the beginning of the meeting, Biden and Trump posed for cameras in the Oval Office, shook hands, and thanked one another.

Emphasizing that he would transfer the presidency to Trump smoothly, Biden said, "Welcome back. We look forward to having a smooth transition, and we will do everything we can to make sure you are accommodated, what you need."

Taking the floor afterward, Trump stated, "Politics is tough, and in many cases, it's not a very nice world, but it is a nice world today. The transition will be as smooth as it can get, and I very much appreciate that."

Following this, Trump and Biden held a closed-door meeting at the White House that lasted approximately two hours.

Since the elections he lost in 2020, Trump had not met with Biden—except for their final presidential debate on June 27—since the inauguration ceremony held on January 20, 2021.
