US President Donald Trump has expressed support for the UK's decision to allow production at the Jackdaw gas field in the North Sea. Welcoming the approval of the project, which has been a subject of debate due to climate change concerns, Trump argued that the UK should continue its drilling activities.

In a post on his social media account, Trump stated that the decision is important for the “wealth and prosperity” of the UK and the city of Aberdeen in Scotland, which is located near the field.

The United Kingdom has started drilling in the North Sea, one of the largest and most productive oil regions in the world. They should go full speed ahead.

In his statement, Trump suggested that the decision would make the UK “very rich” again. The US President also criticized wind turbines, which he has targeted previously, labeling them “expensive and ridiculous” and arguing that they should be dismantled.

Prior to Trump's statement, the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero had announced that Minister Miatta Fahnbulleh had approved the regulator's decision to grant production consent for the licensed Jackdaw gas field.

The natural gas to be extracted from the field is expected to reach homes and businesses in the country starting at the end of the month. It is stated that the projected 10 billion cubic meters of production from the project will meet 2 percent of the UK's estimated natural gas imports for the 2025-2050 period.
