Trump downplays soldiers who suffered brain injuries while advocating for war with Iran: 'They weren't wounded, they had headaches'

Former US President and Republican candidate Donald Trump, who has called for attacks on Iran, sparred with a journalist who pointed out the costs such an attack would have for the US. When reminded of the approximately 100 US soldiers who suffered brain injuries in a past Iranian attack, Trump dismissed the soldiers' condition as 'headaches'.

According to a report by The Hill, Trump answered questions from journalists at an event held as part of his election campaign.

A journalist asked whether a tougher response should be given to Iran, which attacked a US base in Iraq in 2020, causing more than 100 soldiers to suffer traumatic brain injuries.

Trump said, 'Wounded? Because they had a headache? Because the bombs never hit.'

CALLED FOR ACTION AGAINST IRAN

Arguing that no one has been tougher on Iran than he has, Trump claimed that the missiles fired at US forces did nothing more than make a loud noise.

Following the US killing of Iranian Revolutionary Guard Quds Force Commander Qasem Soleimani in an airstrike at Baghdad Airport on January 3, 2020, Iran launched a missile attack on the Al-Asad and Erbil bases where US forces were stationed on January 8, 2020.

More than 100 American soldiers were diagnosed with TBI following Iran's 2020 attack on the Al-Asad base in Iraq, where US troops were stationed.

The New York Times (NYT) had reported that families of soldiers who lost their loved ones were against military interventions in the Middle East
