Trump: I always talk to President Erdoğan

U.S. President Donald Trump, when asked about the lifting of Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) sanctions that led to Turkey's removal from the F-35 fighter jet program, replied, "I love Turkey. I always talk to President Erdoğan. As you know, he is my friend. I will always make him happy."

Trump: I always talk to President Erdoğan

U.S. President Donald Trump answered questions from members of the press as he was leaving the White House for his visit to Alabama as part of the Republican Party's election campaign. When asked what the next step regarding Iran would be, Trump said, "If I told you, that would be big news for you, wouldn't it? You will see. Everything is going very well. Iran is not in a good situation."

When asked about Europe's decision to release diesel stocks following requests from the U.S., Trump said, "Europe has a lot of diesel and they are going to make a huge contribution worldwide. We are doing the same. We will not impose a ban on diesel exports either. Very soon, as soon as the Iran issue is over, you will see oil prices drop back to their previous levels. Maybe even lower than the initial level."

U.S. President Trump stated, "We have a very good relationship with Europe. They wanted to do this because they have a lot of diesel. I said, 'It would be great if you put this on the market,' and they did. That's the situation."

When asked if the idea of imposing an export ban on diesel was completely off the table, Trump said, "We weren't going to do that anyway. I don't think we will. But Europe did a great job. Because they are putting a lot of diesel on the market. They have it available. They use a much higher rate of diesel compared to others and they are doing a great job."

When asked about the reason for the delay in lifting the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) sanctions against Turkey, Trump replied, "I love Turkey. I always talk to President Erdoğan. As you know, he is my friend. I will always make him happy."

CAATSA sanctions were imposed in 2020 after Turkey purchased the S-400 air defense system from Russia following the failure of its attempts to purchase Patriot systems, and Turkey was removed from the F-35 fighter jet program.

U.S. President Trump announced in July at the NATO Leaders' Summit held in Ankara that the sanctions against Turkey would be lifted and stated, "We do not want to impose sanctions on our friends."
