US President Donald Trump made statements to the press following his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House.
Trump took a short tour around the White House grounds with Xi, where they closely inspected the newly opened helipad and the US President's Marine One helicopter.
While answering reporters' questions during the tour, Trump said he had a "great meeting" with Xi. The US President also noted that Xi showed great interest in the granite, stating, "He is an expert on stone, as he is on many subjects, and he really loves granite."
Support from Xi for a return to the memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran
In the report by China's state news agency Xinhua regarding the meeting, it was stated that Xi addressed the issue of Taiwan, an autonomous region that China considers part of its own territory, and requested that the US maintain its stance against "Taiwanese independence" and act cautiously regarding Taiwan.
During the meeting, Xi also brought up the conflicts between the US and Iran. It was noted that Xi supports a return to the memorandum of understanding signed between Washington and Tehran in June and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to safe maritime traffic.
After his contacts, Xi departed the White House, and it was reported that the Chinese leader would meet with Trump again at a dinner to be held later.
