Trump: I hope to meet Lukashenko in person
U.S. President Donald Trump thanked Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko for the release of 16 political prisoners in Belarus, stating, "I hope to meet Lukashenko in person."
U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone call with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
In a statement on his social media account, Trump addressed the political prisoners held in Belarus, saying, "We had a wonderful conversation with the esteemed Lukashenko.
I thanked him for the 16 prisoners who were granted their freedom.
We also spoke about the release of as many as 1,300 prisoners at a later date.
During our conversation, we touched upon many topics, including Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Alaska.
I also hope to meet with Lukashenko in person in the future," he said.
