Trump: If Iran does not reach a deal, the US may use the Diego Garcia base for an attack
US President Donald Trump has announced that if Iran does not reach an agreement, the US could use its base on Diego Garcia Island in the Indian Ocean for attacks against Iran.
US President Donald Trump has once again reacted to the agreement that envisions the UK transferring sovereignty of Diego Garcia Island, located in the Indian Ocean, to the East African island nation of Mauritius, and subsequently leasing the island back.
Highlighting the importance of Diego Garcia Island, which hosts a US military base, Trump said, "If Iran decides not to make a deal, the US may need to use Diego Garcia and the airfield at Fairford to eliminate a potential attack from a highly unstable and dangerous regime."
Stating that the UK should not lose control over Diego Garcia Island under any circumstances, Trump said, "Prime Minister Starmer should sign a 100-year lease at best and must not lose control over Diego Garcia for any reason.
This territory should not be taken from the UK, and if it is, it would be a disaster for our great ally. We will always be ready and willing to fight for the UK, but they must also remain strong in the face of the problems they encounter. Do not give away Diego Garcia," he said.
Diego Garcia Island, located in the Indian Ocean under British administration, has hosted a US military base for strategic bombers since the 1970s.
