Trump: India has agreed to stop purchasing Russian oil

U.S. President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a phone conversation. In a statement following the call, Trump said, "It was an honor for me to speak with Indian Prime Minister Modi this morning. He is one of my closest friends and a strong and respected leader.

We discussed many topics, including trade and ending the war between Russia and Ukraine. He has agreed to stop purchasing Russian oil and to buy much more oil from the U.S. and possibly from Venezuela," he said.

Stating that India's decision regarding Russian oil will help end the Russia-Ukraine War, Trump added, "Due to my friendship and respect for Prime Minister Modi, I have decided, at his request, to enter into a trade agreement that will lower the customs duty the U.S. imposes on India from 25 percent to 18 percent."

Trump stated that India will reduce the customs duties it imposes on the U.S. to zero, and announced that India has committed to purchasing over 500 billion dollars worth of goods from the U.S.
