Trump makes striking claim regarding New Orleans attack

Donald Trump, who is preparing to take office as president in the U.S. on January 20, shared a post on his social media account regarding the incident in New Orleans where a vehicle drove into a crowd.

Trump stated, "When I said that the criminals coming into our country are much worse than the criminals in our country, this statement of mine was constantly refuted by the Democrats and the fake news media, but it has turned out to be true.

The crime rate in our country is at a level never seen before. Our hearts are with all the innocent victims and their loved ones, including the brave officers of the New Orleans Police Department. The Trump administration will provide all necessary support for the city of New Orleans to investigate this act of pure evil and recover from it," he said.

ATTACK SHAKES THE U.S.

Around 03:15 local time, in the Bourbon Street area of the city known as the French Quarter, where New Year's celebrations were ongoing, a driver drove his pickup truck into the crowd and then got out of his vehicle and opened fire.

Police responded to the attacker. New Orleans Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick stated in a press conference that 10 people have died so far and at least 35 people have been injured. Kirkpatrick noted that 2 of the injured were police officers shot by the attacker.

Stating that the attacker exhibited "deliberate behavior," Kirkpatrick emphasized that he "tried to run over as many people as possible." The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced that the attacker was killed in a shootout with police and that the incident would be investigated as an "act of terror."
