Trump nominates Matt Gaetz as Attorney General

The cabinet of Donald Trump, who won the presidential election held in the U.S. on November 5 and is expected to take office on January 20, 2025, is taking shape.

In a statement, Trump announced that he has nominated Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz as Attorney General. Trump said, "I am greatly honored to announce that Congressman Matt Gaetz, of Florida, is hereby nominated to be The Attorney General of the United States.

Matt is a deeply gifted and tenacious attorney, trained at the William & Mary College of Law, who has distinguished himself in Congress through his focus on achieving desperately needed reform at the Department of Justice,” he said.

Stating that Gaetz will end the government's weaponization of justice, Trump added, “He will protect our borders, dismantle criminal organizations, and restore the badly shattered faith and confidence of Americans in the Department of Justice.”

Trump noted that Gaetz played a key role in defeating the Russia hoax and exposing systematic government corruption while serving on the House Judiciary Committee, which oversees the Department of Justice.
