U.S. President Donald Trump used a striking expression regarding relations with China while answering reporters' questions at the White House. Regarding assessments that China is spying on the U.S., Trump said, "Maybe they are, but we are also conducting espionage activities against China."
Trump argued that relations between the two countries are going well ahead of his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Stating that he gets along well with Xi, Trump said, "We are going to have a very good meeting. We get along well. Our relations with China are going very well."
Saying that "very different deals" will be made with China, Trump also touched upon customs duties. Recalling that he once raised the rate to 145 percent, Trump said this caused serious damage to China and that he does not want to continue it.
At the press conference, Trump was also asked about his statement regarding imposing a ban on entry to the White House for CNN, Politico, and MS NOW, which he accuses of producing "fake news." Regarding these organizations, Trump said, "The news they write is fake. Other organizations may be added to these."
Arguing that the country needs "honest journalism," Trump said that media organizations could be allowed back into the White House if they "clean up their act." He responded to a question about whether the ban would expand by mentioning the names of The New York Times and The Washington Post newspapers.
When asked what kind of message it sends to impose bans on some media organizations before Xi's visit, given the press freedom conditions in China, Trump said, "I think we are also oppressive. Fake news is served here. Although we don't apply pressure, they write fake news."
Trump also touched upon Iran in his statements. Stating that Iran cannot possess nuclear weapons, Trump noted that this could have an impact on fuel prices and said, "People do not want Iran to have nuclear weapons. And it won't happen."
Referring to attacks carried out with B-2 bombers, Trump said, "I had no other choice. If we hadn't hit them with B-2 bombers, they would have nuclear weapons right now." Trump argued that the war would end soon and that fuel prices would return to their former levels after the war.
Responding to a question about the Russia-Ukraine war, Trump claimed that Russia has been attacking Ukraine's allies for "about five years." When asked whether Russia would attack Poland, he replied, "The President of Poland has the situation under control."
