Trump's 'deport Gazans' proposal: Israel evaluating the offer
As the second phase of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has begun, Trump has proposed the deportation of Gazans. Far-right figures in Israel have called on the government to evaluate the proposal.
US President Donald Trump's proposal to deport Palestinians in the region to Jordan, Egypt, and other Arab countries in order to 'clear' Gaza has been welcomed in Israel. Some figures within the Israeli government have stated that they are 'pleased' with the proposal and will work with coalition partners to evaluate it.
Following the implementation of the ceasefire and hostage exchange agreement in Gaza, Jewish Power Party leader Itamar Ben-Gvir, who resigned from his post as Minister of National Security, stated that he welcomed the US President's proposal and offered his thanks to Trump.
According to a report by Israeli state broadcaster KAN, far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, leader of the Religious Zionism Party, made the following assessment regarding the proposal:
'I will work with the Prime Minister and the cabinet to create an operational plan to implement this as soon as possible.'
Ben-Gvir, in a post on his X account, demanded that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu encourage so-called 'voluntary migration.'
Pointing to the importance of the idea being raised by 'Trump, the president of the world's greatest power,' Ben-Gvir wrote, 'It would be wise for the Israeli government to implement this. Encourage migration now.'
Israel has 'largely' razed residential areas in the north of Gaza, which it has been attacking since October 8, 2023. The scale of the destruction and the number of lives lost have not yet been fully determined.
PROPOSAL TO DEPORT GAZANS
US President Trump had expressed that Palestinians in Gaza could be deported to Arab countries, primarily Jordan and Egypt.
Trump called for those countries to accept more Palestinians to 'clear' Gaza and for these individuals to be 'settled in housing to be built in different places,' noting that this could be 'temporary' or 'long-term.'
Noting that he had spoken about this issue over the phone with King Abdullah II of Jordan and that he would also meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Trump had used the following expressions:
'I would prefer to get together with Arab countries and build housing in another place where (Palestinians) can live in peace.'
