US President Donald Trump delivered messages regarding Iran, the Middle East, the US economy, and foreign policy during his speech at the general debates of the 81st United Nations (UN) General Assembly. While using harsh language regarding Iran's nuclear program, Trump argued that the Tehran administration would make a deal.
In his assessment of Iran, Trump said, "Their time is running out. I think they will make a deal. They will make a deal after the election," and stated that he would not allow Iran to gain access to nuclear weapons. Accusing the Iranian administration of "creating chaos," Trump claimed that he had provided opportunities for negotiation but had not achieved results.
In his speech, Trump also brought up US military operations against Iran. Referring to operations he called "Midnight Hammer" and "Epic Fury," Trump claimed that these steps "prevented a nuclear catastrophe." He stated that air and naval defense elements, as well as drone capabilities, were targeted.
The US President said that Iran possesses missiles capable of striking Europe and argued that Tehran continues its attacks on civilian ships. While implying that a choice would be made between giving Iran the opportunity to become a "better country" and harsher options, Trump expressed that his expectation is in the direction of a deal.
In other parts of his speech, Trump claimed that the US economy is strengthening, the stock market has reached record levels, and doing business in the country has become easier, while also asserting that crime rates have dropped significantly. Trump also made statements regarding oil extraction from Venezuela, saying that the US Navy had extracted 1 billion dollars worth of oil.
Claiming that he has taken action to solve problems on the world stage, Trump used the phrase, "I brought peace." Touching upon developments in the Middle East, Trump stated that the US continues its claim of solving both domestic problems and crises in foreign policy.
