US President Donald Trump has made new statements regarding Iran and the Middle East. According to Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst, Trump said he is currently in the "decision-making phase" regarding Iran.
Trump stated, "Very big things will happen in Iran in the not-too-distant future." Listing the options on the table as "completely destroying Iran," "letting it rot economically," or "making a deal," Trump said, "My question is; if I'm going to do this, when am I going to blow up the whole country? They better behave."
Trump was also asked whether he would be open to meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at the United Nations General Assembly, which the Iranian leader is also expected to attend. The US President replied that he would "probably be open" to it.
Touching upon the warnings sent to US citizens in the region, Trump noted that despite this, he does not see this weekend as any different from other weekends.
Trump also spoke about the attacks by the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen against Saudi Arabia using ballistic missiles. Stating that the US is in constant communication with the Houthis, Trump expressed that the parties have agreed not to go to war with the US.
Arguing that Washington is experiencing some difficulties in its contacts with the Iranians, Trump claimed that some officials were "hiding like rats" during the process of bringing names to the table who could make a deal.
