A large-scale memorial service was held for Charlie Kirk, one of the most well-known right-wing political commentators in the U.S., at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. In addition to Trump, speakers at the ceremony, which was attended by tens of thousands of people, included Kirk's wife Erica Kirk, Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Trump's son Donald Trump Jr.
U.S. President Donald Trump, who was greeted with "USA" chants upon entering the stadium, began his speech with the words, "Today, America is a nation in mourning, grief, and shock."
"A MARTYR FOR AMERICA AND FREEDOM"
In his speech, Trump spoke about his friendship with Charlie Kirk and the support he received during the election period. "On that terrible day, September 10, 2025, the greatest defender of American freedom became immortal. He is now a martyr for America and freedom," said Trump, announcing that Kirk would be honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Emphasizing that the bullet fired at Kirk was actually aimed at all of America, Trump expressed his hope that the perpetrator of the attack would receive the harshest possible punishment.
TRUMP AND MUSK SIDE-BY-SIDE
Another notable development at the ceremony was the sight of U.S. President Trump and American billionaire Elon Musk, who have had public disagreements in the past, sitting side-by-side. Moments of the two in conversation were captured by cameras, and Musk shared a photo from the ceremony on his social media account with the caption "For Charlie."
