Trump speaks for over two hours with Putin, whom he had criticized: 'He congratulated me and the US'
US President Donald Trump announced that he held a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin and that they plan to meet in Hungary.
The White House stated that the call lasted more than 2 hours, adding that Trump believes it is still possible for Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to come together.
US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone call. Trump said, "I had a very productive phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. President Putin congratulated me and the US on achieving peace in the Middle East, which has been dreamed of for centuries."
Stating his belief that the peace achieved in the Middle East will help the negotiations being conducted to end the Russia-Ukraine War, Trump said, "We also talked at length about trade between Russia and the US once the war with Ukraine is over. At the end of the call, we agreed that our senior advisors would hold a meeting next week." Noting that Secretary of State Marco Rubio will represent the US at the meeting, Trump said, "The location of the meeting has not been determined yet."
"WE WILL MEET IN BUDAPEST, HUNGARY"
Expressing that he will meet with Putin face-to-face following the aforementioned meeting, Trump said, "President Putin and I will meet in Budapest, Hungary, at a place we have agreed upon, to put an end to this 'shameful' war between Russia and Ukraine. President Zelenskyy and I will meet in the Oval Office tomorrow to discuss my conversation with President Putin and many other issues. I believe great progress was made in today's phone call."
