Trump: US military will likely remain in the Gulf for some time
US President Donald Trump, when asked how much longer the US military deployed in the Gulf region would remain there, replied, "We haven't thought about that yet. It will likely stay for a while. It's a good place to be." Trump also stated that he believes it is appropriate for Iran to possess ballistic missiles in a proportional manner.
US President Donald Trump arrived in the capital, Paris, following the conclusion of the G7 Leaders' Summit in Evian, France.
While answering questions from members of the press there, Trump touched upon the memorandum of understanding expected to be signed between Iran and the US in Switzerland on Friday. Trump said, "The Iran deal will be signed within the next 48 hours."
The US President also responded to a question regarding how much longer the US military deployed in the Gulf region would remain there, stating, "We haven't thought about that yet. It will likely stay for a while. It's a good place to be."
Trump also made a statement regarding Iran's ballistic missile capacity.
Trump said he thinks it would be somewhat unfair for Iran not to have some missiles while other countries possess similar weapons.
Pointing out that ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons are not the same thing, Trump said, "If Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and other countries have them, I think it is appropriate for them to have them in a proportional way. That is what I mean."
