Trump visits fire-damaged California: 'It looks like you've been hit by a bomb'

US President Donald Trump visited the city of Los Angeles in the state of California, which has suffered extensive damage due to wildfires, to inspect the disaster firsthand. Promising "100 percent support" to the region, Trump also stated that the situation in the area "looks very bad."

Emphasizing that the scale of the destruction is much greater than what he saw on television, Trump said, 'We flew over a few areas in a helicopter, and it is total devastation.'

As the US tries to heal the wounds of the wildfires that began in the city of Los Angeles, California, on January 7, US President Donald Trump paid a visit to the disaster area.

Welcomed at Los Angeles International Airport by California Governor Gavin Newsom, Trump told reporters that he would be conducting inspections in the disaster zone.

Expressing his satisfaction with being welcomed by California Governor Gavin Newsom, Trump stated the following:

'It looks like you've been hit by a bomb. Doesn't it? We want to fix it. We want to solve the problem.'

While 40,000 acres of land burned in the Los Angeles fires, Trump had previously accused the Democratic California administration of failing to take sufficient precautions.

GOVERNOR REQUESTS SUPPORT

Newsom, for his part, stated that they were pleased to see him in the disaster area, thanked Trump, and underscored that they "need his support."

The Governor of California addressed Trump with these words:

'This means a great deal to all of us. Not just for the people in the Palisades, but for the devastated people in Altadena as well. We will need your support. We will need your help. You were there for us during COVID. I won't forget that. And I have hope that we can work together.'

Reiterating after Newsom's remarks that their goal is to heal the wounds of the disaster, Trump said, 'And the way to do that is to work together. He is the governor of this state, and they are going to need a lot of federal help.'

'WE MUST WORK TOGETHER'

Meeting with local officials later in his visit, Trump promised support for the disaster area.

Stating that 'The federal government is 100 percent behind you,' Trump recalled the destruction and remarked, 'We need to work together to really get this solved.'

Meeting with firefighters and law enforcement officers in Los Angeles, Trump stated:

'Unfortunately, it is a very sad time. But the thing that feels good is that many of the homeowners I spoke with said they want to rebuild their destroyed homes.'

Trump, who was given a "fire emergency briefing" by officials, said in his speech there, 'I don't think you can understand how big and devastating the disaster is until you see it.'
