US and Russian officials held a meeting in Moscow yesterday to secure a 30-day ceasefire in the Ukraine War. US President Donald Trump, in a statement regarding the ceasefire talks, indicated that the possibility of failing to achieve peace could lead to a nuclear war. Trump noted that there has been progress in the talks but that a serious conflict could erupt if the two sides cannot agree on peace terms.
Russia announced that it has reclaimed a large portion of the territory it lost during Ukraine's attack on the Kursk region last August. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that he would provide a 'guarantee of life and dignified treatment' to Ukrainian forces if they lay down their weapons. Putin expressed that there is 'a long way to go' regarding peace negotiations.

According to a report by the Daily Mail, Trump warned that if the crisis in Ukraine is not resolved, a war could break out in which nuclear weapons might be deployed. The US President said that such a scenario would mean great destruction for the world.
In his speech to the Department of Justice, Trump stated the following:
'We are in a good dialogue with Russia. We are talking with President Putin to end the war. If a ceasefire is achieved, they will accept it. But this is not easy at all.'
Prior to these remarks, Trump called on Russia to 'spare the lives' of Ukrainian troops. The US President emphasized that significant progress has been made in relations with Russia since he took office.
