Trump: We are loading warships with the best weapons

US President Trump made statements to the US press shortly after US Vice President James David Vance set off for Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, to negotiate a final peace following the two-week ceasefire reached with Iran.

In his statement to the US press, Trump said that US warships were being reloaded with "the best ammunition" to resume attacks on Iran if peace talks with Iran fail. When asked during a phone interview whether the talks with Iran would be successful, Trump said, "We will find out in about 24 hours. We will know soon."

Trump stated, "We are in a re-arming process. We are loading our warships with the best ammunition and the best weapons ever produced. These are even better than the weapons we used before, which brought them to total destruction. If there is no deal, we will use them."

Regarding the negotiations with Iran, the US President said, "We are dealing with people who we are not sure are telling the truth."

Trump added, "To our faces, they say they have given up all nuclear weapons and that everything is gone. Then they go to the press and say, 'No, we want to enrich.' We will see soon."

Planned contacts in Pakistan

In the meetings to be held in Pakistan, the US is expected to be represented by Vice President Vance, along with Trump's Special Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff, who also led the US negotiations for Ukraine and Gaza, and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner. On the Iranian side, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf are expected to attend the talks.

The contacts are expected to focus on the US demand that Iran hand over its enriched uranium and that the Strait of Hormuz be reopened to international maritime traffic.

Trump had clearly stated that Iran reopening the Strait was a critical element of any ceasefire agreement. However, according to statements from Iran and Pakistan, very few ships had passed through the Strait of Hormuz because the condition that the war stop on all fronts, including Lebanon, was violated by Israel's attacks on Lebanon.

Other issues to be negotiated in the talks are expected to include Iran's support for proxy forces in the region, the country's ballistic program, and Iran's demands for the lifting of sanctions against it.
