Trump: We will impose a 100 percent tariff on China
US President Donald Trump has announced that the US will impose an additional 100 percent customs duty on China.
US President Donald Trump has imposed an additional 100 percent customs duty on China in retaliation for Beijing's restrictions on rare earth minerals. Trump stated, "China is acting in a hostile manner."
In a message shared on his social media account regarding the matter, Trump included the following statements:
“It has just been learned that China has sent a highly hostile letter to the entire world, adopting an extraordinarily aggressive stance in trade. In this letter, they announced that as of November 1, 2025, they will implement far-reaching export controls on virtually every product they actually produce, and even on products they do not produce. This decision affects all countries without exception and was clearly a move planned years ago.
This is an unprecedented situation in international trade and an absolute disgrace in relations with other nations. Because China has taken this unparalleled position, I am speaking not on behalf of other threatened nations, but solely on behalf of the US, and I am saying that as of November 1, 2025, or earlier depending on additional steps China may take, the US will impose a 100 percent customs duty on China in addition to the tariffs already in effect.
Furthermore, export controls for all critical software will go into effect on November 1. It is hard to believe that China would take such a step, but they have. What happens from here on will be a part of history.”
